Story Artisan Press was launched in 2019 as an artisan publisher for artisan readers and artisan writers. Our mission is to challenge the tyranny of the “single story.”

The danger of having only one dominant narrative was eloquently described by Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie.

As avid readers, we are only too familiar with the difficulty of finding books that appeal to our tastes and that reflect our worldview. As passionate writers, we know how difficult it is to find interested publishers and engaged readers. So, we started Story Artisan Press as a way to tackle the challenges of writers as well as readers.

An artisan is someone who crafts useful and/or beautiful objects in a traditional or non-mechanized way, using high-quality ingredients. Our goal, as readers and writers, is the exact opposite of mass-producing cookie-cutter narratives that strive to capture only the zeitgeist.

In retail and marketing lingo, the phrase “long tail” refers to the large number of products that sell in small quantities, as contrasted with the small number of best-selling products. We are deliberate about targeting the long tail by reaching under- or un-served readers who are hungry for meaningful, authentic, and thought-provoking narratives.

Story Artisan Press was co-founded by Nandini Patwardhan and Ranjani Rao. Click here to know how the two “met.”
